About PhenScope
PhenScope is operated by Christopher Wilson trading as PhenKel in the United Kingdom. PhenScope is a professional inspection and reporting application designed to help users record site information, photographs, measurements, observations and related information and produce professional inspection reports.
PhenScope is designed primarily to store inspection information locally on the user's device. PhenScope does not automatically upload inspection records to PhenKel-operated cloud servers.
Information stored in PhenScope
Depending on how the app is used, locally stored information may include inspector and company details, client and site information, project and asset details, photographs, observations, measurements, calculations, findings, recommendations, planner information and location information where the user chooses to use the location feature.
Camera, photographs and location
Camera, photo-library and location functions are user initiated. PhenScope may request the relevant device permission when these functions are selected. PhenScope does not use background location tracking. Location and reverse-geocoding functions may involve services provided by the device or operating-system provider.
Dictation
PhenScope's current Dictate function does not record or store microphone audio. It allows the observation text field to be used with Apple's keyboard dictation. The resulting text may then be stored as part of the inspection. Apple's own services and privacy terms may apply when keyboard dictation is used.
Storage, backup and sharing
Inspection records, profiles, company information and related app information are primarily stored locally on the user's device. PhenScope allows users to create backups and export or share information such as PDF reports. These actions are initiated by the user.
When information is shared or exported, it may be transferred to another application, service, storage provider, email account or person selected by the user. Backup files may contain inspection records and associated files and should be treated as potentially confidential.
Subscriptions and payments
PhenScope Pro subscriptions are provided through Apple's App Store and StoreKit infrastructure. Subscription and payment processing is handled by Apple. PhenScope does not receive or store full payment-card details.
Analytics and advertising
The current version of PhenScope does not contain a PhenKel-operated advertising or behavioural analytics system. PhenKel does not sell inspection information to advertisers.
Retention and deletion
Locally stored inspection information remains on the user's device until it is edited, deleted or otherwise removed. Backups and exported reports are separate copies and must be managed by the user wherever they have chosen to store them.
Your rights and contact
Depending on the circumstances and applicable UK data-protection law, individuals may have rights relating to access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection and data portability. Privacy enquiries concerning information processed directly by PhenKel can be sent to chris@phenscope.co.uk.
Individuals also have the right to raise concerns with the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK's data-protection regulator.
